At 16, she married Joseph George Paulin Sr. and soon gave the world three wonderful children, Joseph, Kenneth and Patricia. Dorothy worked at many menial, often physically demanding, jobs to provide for her family.
In 1957, she gave birth to her daughter, Doreen Pushard and later married the love of her life, Otis Pushard. Times got better after that. Both Dorothy and Otis worked hard to provide a better life for all of the children.
She was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but she was not going to let that get her down. No, she had a life to live and a determination that she passed down to all her children, even the ones who married into her family. On her birthday in 1996, her son, Kenneth, passed away after a brief, but fierce battle with cancer. In October of 2004, her eldest son, Joe, joined his brother. In August of 2006 she lost one of her dear sons-in-law, Don Ott. In the last few years her granddaughter, Angel; grandson, Michael; and great grandson, Kyle, have gone to the other side to wait for her.
The people left behind to pay honor to her life include daughter Patricia Ott and her children Tammy and Terry and their families; daughter Doreen Heath, her husband, Barney, and her children Jody Lewis and Jesse Lewis and their families; daughter-in-law Sugar Trask and her children Kenneth, Timothy, Rhonda, Daniel and Christopher and their families; and her son, Joe Paulin's children, Roxanna, Joseph III, Kimberly and Cameron and their families.
The committal service will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, in Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 8/11/2011)
