COLUMBIANA Virginia Detwiler, 95, of Whispering Pines Village, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Salem Community Hospital, from congestive heart failure.Mrs. Detwiler, the daughter of William and Vera (Theiss) Pusey, was born on April 24, 1916, in Youngstown.
Virginia was a graduate of Columbiana High School in 1934. Mrs. Detwiler had been employed at Sitleršs Flowers, the former Gaughn's Corners Restaurant, Vivians Antiques, and the Dairy Queen for 25 years, all of Columbiana. She was a member of the Grace Church of Columbiana. She had also been a founding lifelong member of the T.O.P.S. Club of Columbiana, where she was a member for 24 years.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip G. Detwiler, whom she married Aug. 21, 1936. Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Don) Seidner of Leetonia, two sons, Richard (Faye) Detwiler of Charlotte, N.C. and Phillip Ray (Mildred) Detwiler of Norman, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand children. Mrs. Detwiler was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, Larry Lee Detwiler in 1988; two sisters; and two brothers.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Grace Church of Columbiana at 5 p.m. with Rev. Rob Joy officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. at the church on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Material contributions may be made to the Grace Church of Columbiana or Hospice of the Valley. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home of Columbiana.
