A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Hillside Community Church, 3rd and C Street, Julian, CA 92036 and graveside services on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 1 p.m. David Burns will officate at Riverview Cemetery, 4700 Hovley Rd., Brawley, CA 92227. After the service in Brawley a gathering will be held at Vance Allen's residence 538 W. Murphy Rd., Imperial, CA for Ernie Gayle Allen, 73, of Loganville, GA a former Imperial Valley Resident who passed away peacefully in her home.
Ernie Gayle was born February 2, 1938 in Brawley, CA. She attended Brawley schools. She married Ethan V. Allen December 10, 1954. In 1966 they moved to Julian, CA. At 32 years old with courage and determination she returned to school and graduated form Julian High School in 1971.
Ernie Gayle worked at Julian High School for over 20 years, for several years after with her husband they ran Santa Isabel Cafe, She also worked at Warner Springs Ranch Resort. She then retired and they moved to Climax Springs, MO in 1996. Then to Leesburg, TX. After Ethan passed away in 2005, she moved to Loganville, GA with her daughter, Beth. She was a very loving and happy person, making many friends and acquaintances thoughout her life. Ernie Gayle never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest M. and Fern S. (Burns) Puryear and her husband Ethan.
Ernie Gayle is survived by her son, Ernest Vance Allen and daughter in-law of Imperial, CA; daughter, Evelyn Kae Allen Ward of Aurora,CO; daughter, Elizebeth Marian Allen of Loganville, GA; daughter Elaine Leigh Allen of Killeen, TX; and son, Ethan Herbert Allen of Corpus Christi, TX; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchil- dren; sister Marian (Puryear) Courtney of Moreno Valley, CA; brother, Roger D. Puryear and sister-in-law of Pagosa Springs, CO; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, a very special uncle and many wonderful friends.
We will always remember Ernie Gayle's infectious laughter and of course her beautiful smile. Forever will be in our hearts.
