Velma Fae Matthews, age 87, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010. She was born in Cleveland on February 3, 1923 to Thomas Fred and Myrtle Lou Purswell who preceded her in death along with her loving husband, Lloyd Matthews; son, Mike Matthews; and her daughter, D'rinda Matthews-Kelley.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sharron Shaver and husband, Steve Shaver, Terri Coleman; sisters, Clyta Jean Carter and husband, Robert Carter, Freddie Jo Johnson; brother, A.J. Purswell and wife, Wanda Purswell; grandchildren, Robin Whitmire and husband, Charles Whitmire, Candace Peck and husband Jim Peck, Nicole Coleman-DuBose, Ashley Kelley, Tiffany Kelley; great-grandchildren, Kendal O'Brien, Alex Peck, Jarret Peck, Paige Coleman, Andrew Coleman, Bree DuBose, Jade DuBose; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other cherished family members and treasured friends throughout the years.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 22, 2010, 3:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment immediately following at Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Charles Sweet, Jim Peck, Clyde Sweet, Danny Lu, Don Coleman, Matthew Daniel, Alex Peck; honorary pallbearers include Jarret Peck, Andrew Coleman, Bert Collier, and E.W. Whitton.
