Son to Clarence Lee Purser and Caroline Anna (Tiejen) Purser. He graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1959. Scratch served his country proudly from 1963 until 1965. He was married to Martha Ann Grifford in Sand Springs on June 17, 1967. Scratch was a member and Deacon of Olivet Baptist Church. He was very dedicated to the Sand Springs Community. Scratch was a Mason, Ombusman, vice chairman of the Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum, and on the board of directors for Sand Springs Community Services. He was also active in Sand Springs American Legion Post 17 and was working to upgrade Vietnam War hero Billie Hall's posthumous Distinguished Service Cross to the Congressional Medal of Honor. In September of 2008, Scratch was awarded the "Hometown Hero" award by the Modern Woodmen of America. He was responsible for organizing the Sand Springs Home Reunion. Scratch was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His cheerful smile and mannerism will be greatly missed by his family and the Sand Springs Community.
Scratch was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Caroline Purser; brothers Guy Martin Purser and Robert Keith Purser.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughters and husbands; grandchildren; sister-in-laws; brother-in –laws and wives; sister-in-laws and husband; other relatives, nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the Olivet Baptist Church. Rev. Scott Palmer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Woodland Memorial Park in Sand Springs. Visitation for Scratch will be Tuesday, January 6, 2009, from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday, January 7, 2009, from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.
