Virginia Purser Croley, 88, passed away March 22, 2012, in Jacksonville, Fla. at Hadlow Hospice Center. Virginia was born September 30, 1923 in Dayton, Tenn. to Nicholas Vance Purser and Hazel Matherly Purser of Rhea County, Tenn. Virginia was a very brilliant, forward thinking woman, who was well ahead of her time. She was a Law Librarian who ran her own business until her retirement in 1989. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James P Croley Sr., of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three sisters, Joyce McBryar, Luella Morris and Evelyn (Nancy) Morgan.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Jill King (Perry); her son, Dr. James P. Croley Jr. (Karen); four grandsons, Jay Sawyer Croley, Paul Tanner Croley, Samuel Walker Croley and Rodney Hunter Croley of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Louise (Tweed) Hickman of Dayton, Tenn., Georgie Lee (Sabe) Lohman of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, A.O. (Chick) Purser of Spring City, Tenn.; as well as many other loving cousins, nieces and nephews of the Purser Family and extended family and friends.
Virginia was an organ donor and chose to be cremated. She requested Honorary Pallbearers to be Lewis E. Christman, III, Carl R. Burnett, Perry King, Drew Mansfield, Bailey Price and Sam Price, as they were loving "sons" to her in her lifetime. Private services will be held at a later date.
