Miss ANNA LAURA PURDY
MANCHESTER CENTER - Miss Anna Laura Purdy, 99, one of Bennington County's oldest residents and almost a lifetime resident of Manchester, died at the Equinox Nursing Home Wednesday. She would have been 100 years old next December.
The daughter of William and Margaret (Hill) Purdy, she was born Dec 16, 1868 on the Purdy farm south of Manchester. As a young girl she had made her home a few years with her aunt, Mrs. John Hitchcock in New York state. Since 1924 she had lived with her sister, Mrs. Caton Harwood in Manchester Center until she became a patient at the nursing home.
Miss Purdy was a member of the Congregational Church and belonged to various church groups. Her activity int he church until recent years had been marked. She was interested in homemaking and a great lover of flowers. Her flower garden occupied many pleasurable hours for her and she had taken special pride in it.
Survivors besides her sister, Mrs. Harwood, include a brother, Robert (Dac) Purdy of Manchester Depot, a patient at Fairview Nursing Home, who observed his 103rd birthday Feb 13; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center Saturday at 2 pm. The Rev. Jerome J. Havey Jr., Manchester Congregational Church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 2 to 4 pm.
