Helen Frances (Fitzgerald) Puckett, 88, of Girard, died at 7:50 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in the Girard Medical Center.
She was born May 2, 1924 in Walnut, Kansas, a daughter of Francis and Cleo (Shook) Fitzgerald.
Helen attended Walnut Schools, graduating from Walnut High School in 1942, and attended college in Pittsburg. She taught at rural schools in the Walnut area for three years.
She married Ernest Marion Puckett on May 6, 1945 in Erie, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2012.
They resided in Walnut until 1950 when they moved to Girard and lived there the remainder of their lives.
Helen was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with and caring for her family.
She worked at Ben Franklin's Dime Store in Girard from 1972 until 1985. Helen was an avid rock collector and also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, reading, and traveling with her sister. She especially enjoyed their trips to Nebraska and New Mexico where they visited relatives and explored their ancestral roots.
Helen was an active member of the First Christian Church of Girard and a teacher of the Gold Band Sunday School class for fifteen years.
Survivors are a son, Curtis A. Puckett of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters Edith Ramage of Girard and Nancy Grantham of Girard; grandchildren Sean Senik-Puckett, Anastasia Senik-Puckett, Evan Grantham, and Chelsie Grantham; a great-granddaughter Matilda Senik-Puckett; a sister, Wilma Scroggins and a special niece, Janice Scroggins, both of Girard.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Puckett McKinney and her parents.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Doug Amend officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 3:00 p.m., Thursday.
