Mildred Inez "Polly" Baker, 81, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 24, 2008.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with the Rev. Billy Gene McConnell, pastor of Open Bible Church in Rio Rico, Ariz., officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to be with our Lord. She has joined our father, Ernest H., in eternity.

Polly was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Prairie County, Ark., to Charlie G. and Loy Addie Pruett. She was the youngest of four children. On May 11, 1946, she married Ernest H. Baker in Cullman, Ala. They spent 56 amazing and wonderful years together. He preceded her in death in 2002.

As many lives are, hers was marked by happiness, hard work, long suffering and change. Mom always looked to her family for comfort and support. She loved her family and opened her home to anyone who needed a hot meal or a shoulder to cry on.

Throughout her life in the Rogue Valley of Oregon, she volunteered with many organizations and events to promote her community and its people, whom she loved. Polly's strong Christian faith kept her steadfast and sustained her through the many trials of her life. God was her guide. He never failed her.

Survivors include two daughters, Rena Loy Battenfield and husband Ron of Amarillo and Rita Lynn Baldwin of Lubbock; two sons, Charles Reese Baker and Ernest H. Baker Jr., both of White City, Ore.; a sister, Aline Simmons of Morrilton, Ark.; two brothers, Donald Pruett of Morrilton and Wayne Pruett of Selma, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
