Alvin F. Marshall, 79, of Nashua NH, died early on June 4, 2005, at a healthcare facility in Hudson NH. Mr. Marshall was born March 26, 1926, in Waterbury CT, son of the late Isadore and Gertrude (Hecht) Movshovitz. He had been a resident of Nashua since 1959, and prior to that he had lived in Waterbury.

Mr. Marshall was educated in Waterbury schools. Following his high school graduation, he attended and received his business degree from Boston University in 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having enlisted while he was in college. He served as paymaster aboard the USS Fall River.

While living in Connecticut, Mr. Marshall started his career in the retail-clothing industry, working with various companies, including Ann Taylor. In 1959, he moved to Nashua and began working in the family business, Consolidated Foods, Inc. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a business consultant in the retail industry. He also taught business courses in the local area and was a substitute teacher for local schools. In his early years, he was a gatekeeper for Holman Stadium.

He was a longtime member of the Nashua Rotary Club and served as president from 1974-75. He was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi Fraternity, as well as Ancient York Lodge 89 Free and Accepted Masons of Nashua. He was an avid reader, especially of the history of both World War I and World War II. At one time, he served on the board of directors of St. Joseph Hospital. After his retirement, he took up the saxophone. He was an accomplished tennis player, especially in his youth and while in school; and he won a state championship in 1940. He will be remembered by his family as a devoted father and grandfather. He was also an avid baseball fan, especially of the Red Sox, and still enjoyed listening to games on the radio.

He was a member of Temple Beth Abraham. While an active member, he was involved with various committees of Temple Beth Abraham.

He was the widower of Florence S. (Cushing) Marshall, who died on Sept. 13, 2004; they were married on Nov. 5, 1950. He was also predeceased by his brother Leon S. Marshall of Nashua.

Survivors include his sons Steven Marshall of Nashua, and Dave and wife Tracey Marshall of Wayland MA; daughter Janet and husband Joel Smith of Andover MA; grandson Daniel Smith of Andover MA; granddaughter Naomi Smith of Andover MA; sister-in-law Barbara Foster of Boynton Beach FL; brother-in-law Milton Gershaw of Peabody MA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
