Dorothy Adcock

November 22, 1922 - April 18, 2010

Dorothy Evelyn Adcock of Huntsville and Annandale, Va., passed away Sunday in Fairfax, Va.

Mrs. Adcock, a native of Huntsville, was the daughter of Clara Belle and Richard Priest. She lived in the Lincoln area as a child and attended Lincoln School. She was married for 36 years to Floyd "Stopper" Adcock who passed away in 1977. They lived for many years on Holmes Avenue and Big Cove Road.

Mrs. Adcock worked as an office clerk and receptionist in several doctors' offices in the Huntsville area. She helped out in her husband's antique business when they were first married. She enjoyed keeping up with fashion, going to the beach and being with her family and friends, particularly the many summer days spent in the swimming pool of her "house on Holmes." She loved to play board games and cards, which she took very seriously. In recent years, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her youngest grandchildren, although she still maintained a residence in Huntsville. She was passionate about current events and loved to talk politics. She continued to read several books a week up until her death. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville.

She is survived by many loving friends and family, both in Alabama and Virginia, including two sons, Richard Adcock of North Carolina and Michael Adcock and his wife Cynthia of Virginia; a brother, William Priest of Fayetteville, Tenn.; a sister, Earline Garcia of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Shannon Adcock, Leigh Adcock, Blake Adcock, Avery Adcock, and Alexandra Adcock; and one great-grandson. She also had several much-loved nieces. Her sister, Margaret Cobble of Tennessee, passed away last year.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Adcock will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Glenn Conner officiating. She will be buried in the family plot at Maple Hill Cemetery.
