North Carolina, USA
Death: Aug. 23, 1885
Fort Worth

Texas, USA

Elizabeth Wright was the daughter of Alpheus Billings Wright and Lucy Benefield Taylor Wright. Lucy Taylor was the daughter of William Taylor and Hannah Dudley Taylor. Both of prominent and prosperous families of North Carolina. It is believed that this Lucy Taylor was a second cousin to President Zachary Taylor. In 1847 Alpheus Billings and Lucy Benefield Taylor Wright migrated to Harrison County, Texas
traveling in covered wagons drawn by oxen. They purchased land from Lucy's cousins Benjamin Franklin and Redding Scott Pridgen (a gift from their parents Wiley W. Pridgen, Sr. and Mary Baker Pridgen) to establish what became their plantation home. The home still stands and is owned by Wright Descendants. It was known as "Locust Grove"
As of June 9, 2012, I was notified that the house is indeed standing and is near what is now Jonesville, Texas.
Still owned by Wright descendants. Built in 1847 to 1849.
Information came from Lora Taylor Hornberger descendant of Alpheus Wright and Lucy Taylor Wright. She was so gracious to send a picture taken in 1991-1992. In fact she was at the home 2 weeks ago.

Married; Redding Scott Pridgen 11 Oct 1847.
Redding and Elizabeth owned property either in Old Union or Livelyville Community.

He and Elizabeth Hannah Wright Pridgen had the following children;
1. Unnamed- died in infancy
2. Lucy Pridgen b. 25 Aug 1851
3. Wiley W. Pridgen b. 24 Aug 1854
4. Mollie Pridgen b. 2 Feb 1857
5. Alpheus Wright Pridgen b. 24 Nov 1859
6. Redding S. Pridgen, Jr. 11 Mar 1862
7. Von Moltke Pridgen b. 8 Apr 1872

Elizabeth was left at home to manage the plantation along with her brother in law, Benjamin Franklin Pridgen while
her husband was fighting for the confederacy.

Elizabeth Hannah Wright Pridgen (commonly known as Bettie) died in Fort Worth, Texas on 23 August 1885 at the residence of Dr. Brooks where she had gone for medical treatment.
