Sarah Jane was born on September 4, 1762 to Jehu and Susanah Price. She was first married to John Parker who passed away in 1788. In 1790, Sarah Jane married Daniel Ackley. After Daniel's death in 1815, Sarah traveled unescorted with her family to Pennsylvania and eventually settled what would be known as the Ackley Homestead on the bank of Ackley Creek in West Finley, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Sarah passed away in 1851. In 1940, Sarah's many descendants gathered at the Homestead to unveil a monument dedicated to her memory as "A Great Pioneer Mother." The monument still stands at the Ackley Homestead, but the Homestead and the monument are no longer under family ownership.
