Elisha was born in Rapids Parish, State of Louisiana on the 27th September A.D. 1818 or thereabouts; he emigrated to Texas, then a portion of the Republic of Mexico in 1820 and there resided, in West Liberty, until 1832 when he moved to Bastrop County; and resided in that Bastrop, Travis and Williamson County until 1870, when he immigrated to the State of California. He participated in the war against The Republic of Mexico for the Independence of Texas as a Private in Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of "Mina Volunteers", in the 1st Regiment under the Command of Colonel Edward Burleson; he enlisted in said Company on the 28th day of Feb 1836. For three (3) months; marched to San Antonio, was met by President Samuel Houston at Guadalupe, they retreated to San Jacinto where he participated in the battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836; stationed in the camp opposite Harrisburg, guarding baggage and supplies during the battle. When the majority of the troops were disbanded, he, with others, were retained as Minute men, and served as a Ranger on the frontiers irregularly for over two years, where he participated in many skirmishes with Indians. For his services aforesaid he received Warrants as Bounties from the State of Texas after it's annexation to the United States for 320 and 640 acres of land.

The records of the Texas Veterans Association show that Elisha Prewett died in Merced County, California in 1894. Reference the Albert Ethel Herzstein Library. Bio Written by Louis W. Kemp, between 1930 and 1952. Elisha was receiving an annual pension of $250.00, approved 13 Aug 1870, from the state of Texas and it would be assumed that the state of Texas knew when and where he died.
