Dolly Preston Ford, wife of Guy B. Ford, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 of natural causes.

Dolly graduated from A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon, NY and attended Smith College, Cushing House as an economics major. She was a former newspaper reporter working for Westchester County Publishers, Fact Finders Associates, and The Associated Press. She was assistant social editor of The Daily Argus in Mount Vernon and public relations director for the Hotel Gramatan, Bronxville. As a reporter with The Daily Argus she interviewed such interesting figures as the first woman diplomat to India, Italian and Russian war brides, and early returning German concentration camp internees.

Born in July 1925, a native of Mount Vernon, NY, Dolly Elfleda Preston was the eldest of two girls. Her father, Ralph Albion Drury Preston, was an early designer and pilot of airships with Goodyear, later working on Wall Street. Her mother, Ruth Huntington Preston, was a D.A.R. (Daughter of the American Revolution) carrying the Huntington name. Dolly was actively involved with drama, both writing and producing her own plays even in grammar school, was very active in student government, was feature and associate editor on the school newspapers, was a member of Tau Epsilon Pi and the National Honor Society, and Dolly was also quite an athlete. She grew up a member of the Huguenot Yacht Club, sailing often with her father on Long Island Sound and she was very active at Smith both in fencing and as cox of the crew. Very popular, Dolly was also an excellent dancer.

In September 1948 she married Guy Barrett Ford of Owenton, KY, who was in NY attending Columbia University on the GI bill. They lived in NY, PA, and NJ until moving to Marblehead in 1964. Here they resided for over 40 years and were very active at the Corinthian Yacht Club where Guy was an avid sports fisherman and Commodore 1991-92. A busy 'executive's wife' and mother of five boys and two girls, Dolly was also active in local theatre, as a sailor and skier, and pursued her interest in local history volunteering at Marblehead's Lee Mansion. Dolly continued her interest in writing with the launching of "Research for Writers" providing 18th century detail. In addition to her writing and dramatic talents, her great smile and kind nature were also well known. After retirement, Guy and Dolly wintered in Jupiter, FL. In 2003 they moved to Brooksby Village Retirement Community in Peabody. Guy passed in March 2007.
Dolly is survived by her sister, Priscilla Preston Theile of Mount Vernon; seven children and seven grandchildren.
