OBITUARY TAKEN FROM FAMILY BIBLE:
The death of Mrs. Louisa A. Prentice takes another from the ranks of the old settlers which have been so thinned of late. All the old timers will remember Thaddeus Prentice, her husband, who was one of the marked characters of the early struggle to make Kansas free. He was at all the conventions and in every movement, and always on the alert and ready for any service. He was one of the unique figures of the times --tall and spare, with sandy complexion and blue eyes. His eye was always keen, and was forever twinkling with interest and mertiment. He was thoroughly alive to all public interests and held responsible public positions. He died June, 1868.

Mrs. Prentice was more quiet and retiring, but none the less made her impression. She was kindly and sympathetic, prompt to help all who needed, and ready to deny herself for others. She was born at Franklin, Connecticut, Aug. 9, 1820. The family early moved to Erie county, New York. She was very successful there as a teacher and she is still remembered by her pupils with affection.

They came to Kansas in 1856, arriving in Lawrence May 21,to day of the sacking of the town and burning of the hotel. She has resided here and in this vicinity ever since, until two weeks ago when she removed to Denver with her daughter, Mrs. J.N. Corbin, with whom she made her home. She leaves three children, Mr. CTK Prentice, of this city, Mrs. William H. Prentice of Denver, and Mr. J. N. Corbin of Denver. Of late, years she has been more confined to home, but all her old friends will remember her with interest. Richard Cordley

She was a direct descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John Howland, John Tilley, Elizabeth Tilley Howland, and Joan Hurst Tilley thru her mother Anna Champlin Ayer.
