Alice May Beverett, 97, began her eternal vacation with the Lord on October 27, 2006 at approximately 8 a.m. surrounded by her loving family and close friends.
Born May 1, 1909 to Bryant Prentice and Lula Johnson in Montevallo, Ala. Alice grew into a strong and beautiful young woman who had learned the value of family and hard work at a young age. She moved north to Pittsburgh, Pa. with her family and then later settled in Akron, Ohio where she was to meet, fall in love with and later marry A.D. Beverett with whom she reared three children. During these years she often worked in a domestic capacity in order to help support her family and eventually retired in 1989. Alice was a member of the First Apostolic Faith Church family and is fondly remembered as a "Church Mother." She sang in the Choir, taught Sunday School, belonged to numerous auxiliaries and was a tireless volunteer at the Haven of Rest.
Alice was preceded in death by husband, A.D. Beverett; father, Bryant Prentice; mother, Lula Prentice Johnson; brothers, Frank, Granison, Pete and Bryant; daughter, Joyce Diane; son, Dwayne.
She leaves to cherish her memory her tireless and loving daughter, Audrey Taylor; grandson, Eugene of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Andre Taylor; great-grandson, Cayton Taylor of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Molly C. Bady and special family member, Shirley Lawler and a host of other family and friends.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, 10:30 to 11 a.m. with services immediately following at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent to 705 Fultz St., Akron, OH 44307.
