Gerald C. "Jerry" Prentice Jr., 81 years young, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Alden Estates in Jefferson.
Jerry was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Gerald and Marie (Besaw) Prentice.
In his younger days, Jerry was a motorcycle enthusiast.
He served in the United States Army and is a Korean War veteran.
Jerry then went on to be a Ham Radio operator. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol Emergency Unit in Colorado and was instrumental in the Thompson Canyon flood in 1976.
Survivors include sister, Laverne Behrens of Fort Atkinson; son, Gerald (June) Prentice III; sister-in-law, Pat Prentice of Jackson; grandchildren, Gerald Prentice IV and Jennifer Prentice; great-grandchild, Amara Prentice; nieces and nephews, Patricia (Tim) Schadler of Fogelsville, Pa., Sharlene (Roland) Gleisner of Jefferson, Michael (Carol) Masnica of Westfield, Christine McKinney and Scott (Cindy) Behrens, both of Fort Atkinson, and Mark Behrens of Jefferson. He further is survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph; brother-in-law, Kenneth Behrens; nephew, Chad Cassidy; niece, Susan Behrens; and nephew, Joey Prentice.
A reception to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Friday, June 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Dugout in Fort Atkinson.
The Nitardy Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
Jerry's family would like to say a special "Thank you" to Alden Estates and Rainbow Hospice Care for all the wonderful care, jokes and smiles they shared with Jerry.
