Professional Football Player. Detroit Lion Championship Team Co-captain. John helped lead the Lions to two consecutive NFL championships. He served in the Navy during World War II, and after his discharge, attended Yale University where he starred in football, being named MVP in 1948. He was also on the wrestling and crew teams. After he graduated in 1949, he joined the Detroit Lions, where he immediately made his mark on the team, while he attended Wayne State University Law School. His professional football career lasted from 1949-53. As a rookie, he played the full schedule of 12 games, starring as both an offensive and defensive tackle. Named co-captain in 1951, he did not miss a game until his final year, when he sat out one game. After co-leading the teams to two NFL back-to-back championships in 1952 and 1953, he retired and he joined Ford Motor Company's legal team where he spent the next 30 years as the Director of Labor Relations for the Glass Division, retiring in 1982. (bio by: Always with Love)
