Elsie Lee Briggs, 96, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Woodlands Living Center.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memory Gardens with grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
Born Oct. 12, 1914, in Hattiesburg, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee Praytor and Eunice Virginia Pickel Praytor. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the Moultrie Federated Guild, Cherokee Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an author and publisher of two cookbooks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Garwood Briggs Jr.; and a son, John Garwood Briggs.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Lee Briggs and wife Sherry of Moultrie; daughter-in-law, Robbie Briggs of Moultrie; grandchildren, Michael Garwood Briggs and wife Joy and Mark Wheeler Briggs and Tiffany, all of Camilla, Ga., and Aimee Casteel and husband Brian, Luke Briggs, Shannon Marie Briggs and Shana Hart and husband Scott, all of Moultrie; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Newsome, Julia Briggs, Thomas Garwood Briggs, Elizabeth Briggs, Wheeler Briggs, Megan Hill, Max Casteel, Jake Hart and Jed Hart.
