Dorothy Elizabeth Hon Poynton passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
She was born on May 25, 1918, to Charles Oren Hon and Mary Beck Hon in Chattanooga, TN.
She graduated from City High School in 1935 and attended the University of Chattanooga. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and had many friends in the ADPi Book Club.
Elizabeth worked for many years as the assistant manager of the Northside Branch of American National Bank, now SunTrust. During this time she was a president of Credit Women International.
She was a fourth-generation member of First Methodist (First-Centenary United Methodist) Church and a member of one of the founding families of Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor; her father, brother, Daniel; her mother, brother, Charles; and husband, Arthur "Bud" Poynton Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn P. Sandlin and son Arthur, (Joanna) Poynton III; grandchildren, Rike (Pam) Sandlin, Steven (Annie) Sandlin, Christopher (Jessica) Poynton; four great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Snodgrass Ross; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all caregivers and friends at Hickory Valley Retirement Community and NHC Parkwood for their loving care of Elizabeth.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, at First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Kate Lyle West Chapel of First Centenary.
Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First-Centenary United Methodist Church Music Ministry or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, Hixson, TN.
