Birth: Mar. 22, 1870
Butler County

Death: Dec. 18, 1911
Phillips County
Kansas, USA

Amanda J. Powers (sic) was born in Butler Co., Mo., March 22, 1870 and departed this life Dec. 18, 1911 at the age of 41 years 8 months and 23 days. Most of her life wass (sic) pent (sic) in this neighborhood where she is well and favorably known. On May 25, 1896 she gave her hand in marriage to Harlan Brown. This union was a happy one and their married life was one continual song of love and joy. Most of their married life was spent on the farm where they worked side by side sharing life's burdens and rejoicing together in their victories.

Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Brown felt that they owed it to each other to retire from active farm life and move to town where they could enjoy one anothe'rs (sic) fellowship still more and feel the strain of life less. Alas, how futile are our earthly plans. Two short years, which were the happiest of their married life soon sped by and then death came into this home. Gloom now reigns where joy once abode. Truly life is but a vapor which abides for a little while and then is driven away. In these last two years of their life many dear friendships were formed among Kirwin people and Mrs. Brown's death is deeply mourned by all. During the special revival services which were held at the Methodist Church about six weeks ago Mrs. Brown became deeply concerned about her soul and with her husband came to Christ and received His pardoning Grace.

During her sickness she never lost the peace of that deep abiding faith in Him and while in extreme pain she spent the long hours in silent prayer.

She deeply appreciated the prayers of her Brothers and Sisters in Christ who attended her in her suffering. Let the peace that was hers before death be ours now and by it let us be sustained. Beside the host of friends there remains to mourn her death a husband, two brothers and one sister. xxxx
