Donald E. Power, born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on October 29, 1925, passed to the loving arms of the Lord and his wife, Virginia, on December 25, 2007, with his friend Victoria E. Schafer at his side.
Donald and Virginia were married for 53 years and were a couple with very strong faith and a love of the Lord. Their pastor, David Robertson, along with the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Green, provided love, friendship and spiritual guidance. Mr. Power enjoyed the lasting and supportive friendship of Mr. Arthur Kiel and his wife, Dee for over 50 years. Mr. Power served in the military with the 2167 AAF Base Unit in Alabama from February of 1944 until September of 1945, receiving a Good Conduct medal. Mr. Power was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio as a Master Mason. Mr. Power was an Airship Engineer with Goodyear and Lockheed Martin, retiring in 1989 after 39 years of service. The Boeing 747 was one of his many assignments. He spent time in Seattle, Wash., for Boeing and in Phoenix, Ariz., for Goodyear. In his spare time Mr. Power created a bird feeder called Goldfinch Galleria, which he patented. Don and Virginia were very talented, enjoying painting, arts and crafts, and sewing. Their kindness and generosity benefited many. After Virginia's death, Mr. Power established a very generous scholarship fund for the Portage Lakes Career Center to assist adult students with their financial obligations. Fortunately, he was able to attend two graduation ceremonies before he died, with the help of Superintendent, Mark Lukens.
Mr. Power was preceded in death by his wife, M. Virginia Power; parents, Walter and Margaret Power; and brother, Wayne Eugene Power.
Mr. Power is survived by Virginia's sisters, Maureen Cooke and Wathena Miller of Kentucky; niece, Pamela Katje of Michigan; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
