Annette May Powell, (nee Spreitzer)was born November 17, 1923. Her time here ended on Thursday, May 20.
She was the loving wife of the late Robert J. Powell for over forty-one years. Mother of the late Roberta Ann Duncan and of Mark A. Pofelski of Crown Point, Indiana. Member of Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church in Merrillville, Indiana.
Annette was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #220 in Chicago for over 63 years and dual member of Unit #20 in Crown Point, Indiana. She was past president of Auxiliary Unit #220 and also past Third District Director. Past Chapeau of the South Suburban Salon of the Eight and Forty. Proud member of the Academy of Humanitarians for Community Service, receiving the Ervin Orel Memorial Award as Citizen of the Year in 1982 for "Outstanding Services to the East Side Community" in Chicago. Annette was a lifetime member and past secretary of the Southeast Historical Society of Chicago.
Annette and her husband Robert were instrumental in forming the planning committee for the East Side Memorial on Indianapolis Boulevard at 100th Street in Chicago. She was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Association. She is survived by her son, Mark, four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
