Dorothy D. Parker [Cumberland]
CUMBERLAND — Dorothy Dalton Parker, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.
Born Aug. 13, 1926, in Paw Paw, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Henry Powell and Bertha (Brumback) Powell. Mrs. Parker was also preceded in death by her first husband, Herman M. Meekins Sr., 1971; her second husband, Sherman Robert Parker, March 23, 1999; three brothers, Harry, William and John Dick Powell; two sisters, Katherine McDaniels and Irene Powell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dorothy was formerly employed at the Fort Cumberland Hotel and was the elevator operator at Lazarus Department Store. She was employed at Darr's Chicken Nest. Dorothy was a member of the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church and the Fulton Meyers Post 153 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Herman M. Meekins Jr.; her daughter, Carolyn Meekins, both of Cumberland; her stepdaughter, Sara E. Coates, Frostburg; as well as numerous family members and friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Alfred Deas Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
