Jerri Sue Neuhaus (known to everyone as Sue), of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, in the Halquist Hospice Center in Arlington, Virginia after a courageous battle against cancer. Sue was 55 years old.
Born January 21, 1957, in Ft. Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of Jerry Lee Pounders, Sr., and May Elizabeth Griffin. She graduated from Western Hills High School.
Sue married Ken on April 11, 1975, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and spent the following 36 years traveling to places such as Greece, Turkey, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Italy, France Japan, Hawaii, Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, Washington, D.C., and many other places in between, courtesy of the USAF.
Surviving are her husband Ken (Lt. Colonel USAF Retired); son John and his wife Tina; daughter Kim and her husband Tim Waggoner; mother May Beth Griffin; mother in-law Happy Gotthardt Hooper; grandchildren Isaac and Ava Neuhaus, and Thomas and Stella Waggoner; sisters Liz, Cindy, Kimberly, and Jennifer; brothers Scott and Jason; uncles Edward Griffin and Danny Jo Griffin; aunts Ina Walls and Deborah Jo Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1981 and her brother Jerry in 2012.
Sue was a true and gifted patriot who served our country for over 36 years as a military spouse. In that role, Sue dedicated hundreds of hours of her personal time volunteering to help the military community. She worked in many military welfare organizations supporting young military families and the less fortunate in the local communities that she lived.
Sue was friendly with everyone. She was the model Air Force wife and mother; and Ken's best friend and partner in life. Sue was passionate about genealogy and helped numerous people find their roots. She loved history and cherished taking her children and grandchildren on trips to see the very places most people only read about in books. Sue's favorite memories though were the days she spent with her grandchildren exploring various zoos, aquariums, parks, and historical sites.
