HERMISTON — The funeral for Wilma Jean Basford will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston with interment at the Hermiston Cemetery to follow.
Mrs. Basford, 79, a longtime Hermiston resident, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Holy Rosary Medical Center in Ontario.
She was born May 13, 1924, at Pendleton to Grover and Zelma Eldredge Pound. She grew up at Pendleton and attended Pendleton schools, graduating from high school at Pendleton.
On June 10, 1942, she married Stanley L. Basford at Pendleton. They moved to Hermiston in 1946.
In 1951, she went to work for US Bank, where she was employed for 35 years, retiring in 1986 as a loan officer.
Mrs. Basford was a member of Eagles Lodge 2909, a charter member of the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Good Shepherd Medical Center Board of Trustees for many years, a member of the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, president for three terms of the Credit Woman's Association and a member of Beta Sigma Sorority.
She was an avid golfer with the Umatilla Ladies Golf Club and in her younger years enjoyed riding horses.
Survivors include her son, Wylie, and his wife, Terry, of Payette, Idaho; sisters, Colleen Friddle of Lewiston, Idaho, and Cornelia Prout of Pendleton; grandchildren, Sean, Aaron, Tobin, Corey, Stacey and Heather; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, by her parents, Grover and Zelma Pound, by her brother, Wally Pound.
