Emily Beatrice Poteet Bass
Emily Beatrice Poteet Bass, age 63, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla. after a two-year battle with lung cancer.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1945 in Morganton, N.C., to the late Justus McCoy Poteet and Myra Dorothy Poteet.
Mrs. Bass was baptized as a Methodist and had a strong, unwavering belief in her faith. Mrs. Bass was raised in the Shady Rest area of Morganton. As a Navy wife, she lived in many different locations, but had lived in Orange Park for 36 years. She was an artist, nurse, homemaker, and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She received college degrees from the University of North Florida and Jacksonville Community College. Her warm, jovial personality made everyone feel welcome and loved. She was determined, kind, and insightful and raised two sons to become successful engineers. She particularly loved her grandchildren, intensely cherishing time with them, and often lamenting over the distance they lived from her.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, George Leon Bass, of the home in Orange Park, Fla.; her brother, Oliver Poteet of Morganton; three sisters, Josephine Poteet Small of Morganton, Muriel Poteet Morgan of North Canton, Ohio and Myra Poteet Smith of Morganton; two sons, George Gregory Bass and his wife, Stephanie Eberwine Bass, of Taylors, S.C. and Erich Leon Bass and his wife, Susan Marlene Deen Bass of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Victoria Fern Bass, Jackson Taylor Bass and Brooke Emily Bass; and two stepgrandchildren, Monica Ann Bourg and Shaun-Marie Bourg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Isaac Finley Poteet.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory with the Rev. Harold Joplin officiating.
Interment will be in the Meditation Alley Mausoleum at Burke Memorial Park at a later date.
Friends will be receivedfrom 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory in Valdese.
