Andrew James Posey, Jr. Dec. 5, 1925 - Dec. 22, 2010 On the evening of Dec. 22, 2010, Andy passed away surrounded by his family after succumbing to liver failure. Andy was born on Dec. 5, 1925 in Yonkers, NY to parents Andrew and Mary Posey. He grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Gorton High School. Andy served in the Marine Corps for 2 1/2 years during WW II. He was stationed in East Asia and fell in love with the Chinese culture. Andy received a B.S. degree from Yenching University in Peiping, China. He obtained his M.A. from Harvard University. Andy was a lifetime learner and was a wealth of factual information.
After marrying his high school sweetheart, Anne Posey, on Dec. 31, 1946 they embarked on a lifetime together for nearly 64 years. His beloved Anne died just eight days prior to Andy. During their marriage Andy was employed by the federal government for 25 years. He held positions that took him to live in Japan, Okinawa, Hong Kong, Thailand and Bethesda, MD. He worked long hours and was a perfectionist in his work. Andy's intellectual brilliance was truly a gift. In 1992 Andy and Anne moved to Austin, TX to be closer to family. Andy particularly enjoyed getting to know his grandchildren better and seeing them shine in their own realms. Andy lost most of his eyesight more than eight years ago, but he loved to be physically fit and walked daily with his dog, Tory. Together they walked multiple miles every day. They were quite a pair and were recognized by many in the Lakeway community in which they lived.
In 2008 Andy and Anne started a family foundation dedicated to making a long lasting impact to organizations in the areas of education, science, research and social justice. The foundation was Andy's pride and joy. He wanted to make a difference in this world and felt like this could be continued for generations to come. Andy also had a strong commitment to family and wanted to ensure that each of his children and grandchildren recognized the value of a good education.
Andy is survived by his only brother, Bruce Posey and wife, Joyce; his four children: Andrew J. Posey, III and wife Donna, Anita Glickert and husband, Bob, Alicia Bogley and husband, Ken, Alan Posey and wife, Erika; eight grandchildren: Rhiannon Gammill, Alison Posey, Andrew Posey IV and wife, Kristi, Keith Glickert and wife, Audrey, William Gammill and wife, Kashmir, Bobby Glickert, Michael Glickert, and Emily Posey; and four great grandchildren: Alexandra Posey, Kara Posey, Audrey Posey and Claire Glickert, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
