Gladys M. Albert, 81, of Columbus, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Madison, the daughter of George and Eva Alma Jenkins Porter. She had been employed as a baker for Bartholomew County School Corp. at Parkside Elementary School for the past 12 years. She was a 40-year member of the Hoosier Schooners Camping Club, where she had been the National Hiking Director, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans in Bellview, Fla., where she had been the commanding officer and head of the kitchen for many years.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Tindell and Eva Snyder, both of Columbus, and Kenna Gilham of Scipio; two sons, Daniel Albert of North Vernon and Dennis Albert of Columbus; one brother, Daniel William Porter of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth R. Albert, June 10, 2003; and one brother, George W. Porter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Myers Funeral Service — Reed & Jewel Chapel in Columbus, with burial in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home, 3729 25th St.
