Vera E. Cookson, 83, Resident of Whitman
Whitman — Vera E (Porteous) Cookson, 83, died at Colony House Health Care in Abington Saturday after a short illness. Born in Boston, she had lived in East Bridgewater for 35 years and in Whitman for the past 17 years.
She was a graduate of the Farmington Normal School in Maine and taught school in a rural section of Maine for several years. Mrs. Cookson was employed for 17 years as a bookkeeper at the East Bridgewater Savings Bank, where she worked for 21 years.
She was a member of the Whitman Senior Citizens, the First Congregational Church in Whitman and the Council on Aging in East Bridgewater and Whitman. During World War 11, Mrs. Cookson was head of the rationing board in East Bridgewater.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Cookson of Oregon and Bruce W. Cookson of Foxboro; two daughters. Mrs. Edward (Betty) Cavicchi of Easton and Mrs. William (Eleanor) Hartley of Stowe, 12 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.
The funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth St., Whitman. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, East Bridgewater.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 am in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth St. Whitman (Rte 58 at the rotary circle). Calling hours Monday 3-5 and 7-9. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Massachusetts Cystic Fybrosis Foundation.
