Birth: Feb. 21, 1932
Death: Aug. 29, 2012

Billie Jean Curtis went to be with her Lord on Wednesday evening August 29, 2012 after a devastating brain aneurysm at the age of 80. Billie was born on February 21, 1932 to parents Pearl and Marcus Pool.
She was the baby of her family with 2 older sisters. She and her oldest sister Marion were very close all of her life. The middle sister, Helen, died of leukemia as a young adult. Billie married Bob Curtis on April 1, 1949. She loved to laugh at the fact that her anniversary date was April Fool's Day! Her husband Bob preceded her in death on November 3, 2010. Bob and Billie had 2 sons, Rick and Rex that they adored and then their daughter Cathey a bit later in life always telling her that she was "the best mistake they ever made"!
She was born and raised in Dallas and lived her whole life in this area. She loved her neighbors and neighborhoods (on San Marcus, Fernald and Covey Court) and was happy with what she had right here! She loved and appreciated the beauty in God's nature. She loved spending time watching birds, squirrels and whatever wildlife wandered through her lush backyards full of ivy, plants and trees. Oh how she loved her trees!
Billie was hard worker with whatever she did. She held several secretarial type positions in her early years, was a stay at home Mom for a while and handled the bookkeeping for the Shell Service Stations that she and Bob owned over the years. Later in life, she enjoyed being a day time nanny for a special family and turned her obsession of cleaning into a career.
Billie would always tell Cathey stories about when "her kids" were little (talking about the boys) and Cathey would say "hey, what about me? I am your kid too!" Billie and Cathey were much more than mother and daughter, they were great friends. Speaking of friends… Billie had many dear friends over the years that meant the world to her. She truly loved and cherished her friends. She worried about them, prayed for them and loved taking care of them in any way she could. She had a very strong "mother instinct" and it showed through in all of her relationships.
Bob and Billie loved their kids and grandkids to a fault, always wanting to provide any and everything for them. They loved having family gatherings for holidays or just any time. A gathering of any kind always meant a big meal for Billie, or at least a CAKE! She loved to feed people… those she loved and cared about and even those that were just acquaintances. She loved making people feel loved and appreciated with a gift of a special baked good-one of her favorites was her infamous lemon apricot bunt cake. She had MANY specialties that family and friends will miss such as her baked ham, chicken & dressing and peach cobbler! A holiday will never be the same without her special touch in the kitchen (and telling everyone else how things should be done! (The right way… Billie's way!)
She truly loved helping others. In her later years, she partnered with her neighbor friends and baked a big supply of cupcakes once a month for feeding the homeless. She was also dedicated to her church, Colonial Baptist and help start a Prayer Blanket Ministry. She got a lot of joy out of sewing these and praying over these special blankets that would be given to people suffering with illnesses. Billie was an extremely caring and selfless person. She cared for her husband for many years after he suffered a series of strokes until his passing in November of 2010.
Billie was also the proud Momma to Belle and Beau, her fur babies! These dogs were a huge part of her and Bob's life. She treated her dogs just like humans. They were also treated to home cooked chicken every day!
Billie, also known as "Memaw" will be remembered with much love by her children Rick and wife Suzanne, Rex and wife Elaine, Cathey and husband Bryan Burgess and her grandchildren Chandra and husband Matt Kirchmeier, Ryan, Rhett and wife Maggie Curtis and Cassidy Burgess.
Billie was a perfectionist and poured her heart and soul into everything she did. Her passions all involved taking care of people-raising her kids, spoiling her grandkids, sewing, cooking, or just helping in any way she could. Throughout her life, she touched many lives and her touch will be sorely missed! We know she is rejoicing now in the presence of her Lord! She is probably gathering everyone up in heaven for a big slice of cake and some good 'ole Gaither gospel music!
