Windsor Review, Windsor MO - Mrs. Alva Carter died at the family home on Windsor St. Tuesday night (Jan 25, 1927) shortly after eleven o'clock, following a stroke of paralysis (complications of child birth) Saturday morning. The deceased, whose maiden name was Gladys Ora Pontius, was born in Boise, Idaho, Sept. 23, 1902, and was 24 yrs. old when the death summons came. When she was four years old, her mother died and from that time she made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Pontius in and near Windsor, MO. She received her education in the schools near Windsor, moving to Windsor with her uncle and aunt after they sold their farm. Feb. 1, 1922 she was united in marriage to Alva Frederick Carter, son of Jerome and Mattie (Chastain) Carter. To this union two children were born, Annette, two and one-half years of age, and a baby boy, Charles Frederick, 8 days old. She is survived by the husband, Alva, and two children, her father, William Dow Pontius, one brother, Frank Pontius, both of El Paso, Texas, two sisters, Cora Milhiser, who is making her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pontius, and Vera Pontius, of San Diego, Calif., and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church, Friday afternoon and interment will be made in Laurel Oak Cemetery.
