Mary Emma Pollard-Asuquo was born Nov. 2, 1962, in Richmond and departed into a peaceful rest on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J.
Mary joined First Mount Olive Baptist Church in Newtown at an early age. She attended St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville in the early '80s, then moved to Hawaii for two years. In the early '90s, Mary moved to California. In 2002 she received a degree in cardiovascular technology, echocardiology and graphic vascular technology from Orange Coast College. In February 2003, Mary entered Duke University School of Medicine and received a degree in sonography.
She loved to travel and she lived her life to the fullest.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James F. and Mary Lorraine Stewart Pollard; and her brother, Ernest Coswell Pollard.
She is survived by her siblings, James F. Pollard Jr. of St. Stephens Church, Columbus A. Pollard (Alison) of Hanover, Jan Robinson Biggs (Mark) of Chesterfield and Dwight T. Pollard (Mikia) of St. Louis, Mo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Mount Olive Baptist Church in Newtown, and one hour prior to the service, which will be held Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fred D. Holmes will officiate. Interment is in the church cemetery.
Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock, is handling the arrangements.
