She survived her sisters Vera and Fanny as well as her brother Charles. Her sister Ida and brother-in-law Dennis Basinski reside in Marine City, Michigan. All of the family lived in close proximity to each other throughout their lives, and saw each other frequently.

Before Sara was 10 years old her family moved from Detroit to Algonac, Michigan. She came to love Algonac, and lived there her entire life except for a couple of years when she lived in the New York City area when newly married, while her husband, Lorenzo Anthony Ippolito, served on active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard there. Sara became a widow in 1977.

Sara was a working mother. During her long business career she owned and operated The Heminger Insurance Agency for about 40 years and owned and opereated The Great Lakes Inn for almost 20 years along with her daughter, niece Jenny who managed the office and son-in-law, A. James Sterling, Jr.

Sara loved people and public service. She was generous and charitable throughout her lifetime. She was constantly sought by people, family and friends throughout the region for counsel on business and family matters. And, being Italian, hospitality was always extended to visitors and guests.

During her lifetime, Sara prepared many feasts for family and friends - Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially memorable events. She was an excellent hostess and cook. Her view was that a meal was a time for celebration.

Although she held herself to the highest standards in all she endeavored being the best she could be everyday, Sara would want to be remebered as having been a loving daughter, wife and mother to Lucreatia. She was a devout Catholic, a good businesswomen and a true friend. In his goodness, God granted her an exciting journey through life and a peaceful death.
