Eleanor L. Plath Yingling Folckemer, of York, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010.

Born May 13, 1924, in York, she was a daughter of the late Carl W. and Anna L. (Jones) Plath

Eleanor attended William Penn Senior High School in York. Following her graduation in 1943, she studied fashion design at the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City.

She was the owner of Milady Salon of York, specializing in custom designed bridal gowns and women's apparel, for 13 years.

In 1966, Mrs. Folckemer and Phyllis Frey of York undertook the project of creating patterns for and sewing petite size authentic reproductions of the First Ladies inaugural gowns which are on display at the Hall of Presidents, and First Ladies' Exhibit in Gettysburg. In subsequent years, she was employed in the field of women's apparel and interior design by several local businesses.

Mrs. Folckemer was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she was a member of an adult Sunday School, the Sewing Workshop, Circle #1 of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Altar Guild, and taught children's Sunday School. She used her sewing talents to design and sew costumes for St. Matthew's annual Christmas Eve Nativity pageant. She was also a member of the Shiloh Garden Club. While living in Asheville, N.C., she was an active member of All Souls' Episcopal Church, creating costumes for the church's production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors", serving on the refreshment committee for their annual fair, the Finance Committee, and helping with the Transition Dinner for released prisoners and their families. Mrs. Folckemer was also a member of the Christian Women's Club of Asheville.

Mrs. Folckemer was the wife of the late William H. Yingling and the late Clarence E. Folckemer and is survived by three children, Pamela (Yingling) Horvath and husband, Julius F. of Conshohocken, Sharon (Yingling) Frisbie and husband, Wesley R. of York, and Thomas R. Yingling and Karen A. of Jefferson; three stepchildren, Clement Folckemer, Catherine Folckemer Parker, and John Folckemer; six grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janice (Smith) Plath of Las Vegas, NV; nieces; and a nephew.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. Plath, Jr.

Interment was in Mount Rose Cemetery.
