Richard Abraham Pitts, Jr., of Charleston, entered into eternal rest October 28.
He was the son of Richard Abraham Pitts and Frances Campbell Pitts.
Rick attended East Mecklenburg High School and graduated from The Citadel in 1967 with a degree in History. He entered the United States Air Force Reserves and served twenty-seven years as a flight navigator and was Squadron Commander of Marietta's C-130, 94th Airlift Wing-700th Airlift Squadron at Dobbins Air Force Base in Atlanta, GA.
He served his country during Vietnam and during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Gulf War and was awarded the Air Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal, and he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Rick was currently employed by United Health Insurance Company and was very active in the Masonic Temple, James Island Lodge #396, there he served as Master during 1991. He enjoyed active involvement in St. James Episcopal Church and the Charleston Fellowship Society.
He was the husband of Virginia Welch Pitts for thirty-seven years and surviving, in addition to her and also his mother of Charlotte, NC, are two daughters: Gina P. Lilienthal, M.D. of Murray, KY and Wendy P. Colvin of Winchester, TN; a brother, Bill Pitts of Augusta, GA, and a sister, Ann Briggs of Ninety-Six, SC: one granddaughter: Rachel Lilienthal.
