Dimple Jo Pittman Baumgardner
(18 February 1933 - 23 October 2010)

Dimple Jo Ann "Jo" (Pittman) Baumgardner, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Quaker Hill Manor at Lowell, Ks. following a long battle with Alzheimer's.

She was 77 years old.

Jo was born to William and Anna (Wallace) Pittman on Feb. 28, 1933, at their home in Galena, Ks.

She attended schools in Galena, graduating as valedictorian from Galena High School in 1951 with many classmates that would remain lifelong friends.

She attended Parsons Community College in Parsons, Ks. where she met and later married the love of her life, Tommy Joe Baumgardner in 1953.

To this union were born three sons, Tommy Joe Jr., Brian Jean and Bruce Jeffrey.

Over the next 38 years Jo was involved with her family and community. She was a Cub Scout den leader, room mother, hospital volunteer, ran the concession stand for Little League Baseball, provided transportation for school field trips, baked and decorated cakes for PTA fund-raisers, sold real estate and mobile homes and managed a mobile home park. Even being this active, she still had time for her hobbies of homemade crafts, playing bridge, gardening, and planning those special events like holiday celebrations, vacations, birthday parties and picnics.

When Tom retired in 1991, he and Jo moved to Joplin where she enjoyed her flower gardens, cats, special shopping trips and homemade crafts.

In addition to spoiling their eight grandchildren, Jo and Tom spent wonderful times traveling and visiting with dear friends Bob and Dorothy Christy, of Huntsville, Al., and Joan Delphia and the late Robert of Olathe, KS.

She is survived by her sons, Tommy Joe Baumgardner, Jr., and his wife, Sandy, and their children, Tommy III and Andrew, of North Platte, Ne.; Brian Baumgardner and his wife, Molly, and their children, Katie Jo, Paul, Gwendolyn and Amelia, of Louisburg, Ks.; and Bruce Baumgardner and his wife, Pam, and their children, Chris and Wes, of Plainfield, Il.; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents; and brothers Leroy and Bill Pittman Jr and sister Peggy Ross.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Jo's niece, Sherry (Jim) Sutton; Jo's cousin Erma Mae (Jim) Boyes; friends Norma Jean and Al Hendricks; and friends Don and Connie Meier; and the many kind nurses', nurses' aids and friends whose Christian words and acts eased our mother's suffering these last few months.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 11:30 am, Saturday, Oct 30, 2010 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Private graveside services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, Oct 30, 2010 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Parsons, KS. Mr. Jim Sutton will deliver the Eulogy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olathe (KS) Medical Center Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
