Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. July 13 in the Barbara Worth Golf Resort near Holtville for Irene Pittard, 60, of Fort Collins, Colo., a former El Centro resident who died June 17 in Fort Collins.

Her remains were cremated.

Mrs. Pittard was born Nov. 10, 1941, in El Centro. She was raised on the family farm, helping her father every chance she had.

She graduated from Imperial High School and graduated with a degree in English from Arizona State College in Flagstaff.

She married Al Pittard. They had one son, Daniel McWilliams "Mack" Pittard. She raised her son as a single mom.

Mrs. Pittard taught English at the high school level most of her life, many of those years in El Centro.

After her retirement, she moved to Fort Collins to be close to family and eventually found some time to write creatively. Her close friendships spanned several states with people who had been supportive throughout her life. Wherever she lived her home became a center of life, laughter and great food, according to family.

Survivors include her son and his fiancee, Mack Pittard of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Heather Phillips; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Al Rohde of Fort Collins; niece, Tammy Taunt of Oceanside; and nephew, Travis Phillips of Superior, Colo.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of Larimer County, 7604 Colland Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80525, or to the American Cancer Society.
