Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home for James Claude Pirtle. 84. of 501 E. Third St., who died Monday afternoon at his home. The Rev. Edgar Newby of First Assembly of God Church will officiate. and music will be provided by soloists Rev. and Mrs. Don Pettey who will sing "Precious Memories" and "Pearly White City." Organist Odessa Boris will accompany them. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Ingram Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Elton Arnold, Lloyd Green, Steve Staeden Jr. and Dale Wells.

Mr. Pirtle was born May 8. 1894. in Bonham. Texas. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. (Nancy Hennessey) Pirtle, both now deceased.

A resident of Roswell for 53 years. he was a retired farmer. On March 13. 1972. Pirtle was married in Roswell to Walsie Dickinson. who survives him at the home. During his 53 years in Roswell he had served as a board member and treasurer of the First Assembly of God Church, on the Chaves County School Board from 1934 to 1938. and as an honorary member of the Chaves County Sheriff's Department.

Survivors include four daughters. Phyllis Smith and Marie Tucker of Roswell, Ruby Ashford of Miami, Ariz. and Ivulene Shannon of El Paso, Texas; four sons. Ira Pirtle of Roswell. Jerald Pirtle of Firebaugh, Calif.; Ray Rackow of El Paso and Jesse Pirtle of Olathe. Kans.; two sisters. Vada Jordan and Hazel King. both of Roswell; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
