About Leavurn Hester Pinkerton Morrison

Mother's Maiden Name: Wise

Leavurn "Babe" Morrison passed away on a Sunday at a Sonora hospital. She was 80 years old and a descendant of the old West detective Pinkertons. She was born in Yerington, Nevada.

Mrs. Morrison married construction worker, George Morrison, and the couple lived in many small California towns before moving to Columbia in 1937. She then lived in Columbia continuously until her death. For 40 of those years, she worked as a candy dipper at the Columbia Candy Kitchen.

She was a member of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary since 1938 and was its first treasurer. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and was the grand marshal of the 1986 Columbia Glorious Fourth of July Celebration.

Preceded in death by her husband in 1968, she was survived by her son, Gilbert of Columbia; two daughters, Lois Fraguero of Sonora and Dolores Nicolini of Columbia, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Afternoon services were held at Terzich-Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora with Reverend Ronald Swanson officiating. Interment was in the Columbia cemetery.

The family requested that remembrances be sent to the Visiting Nurses Association of the Mother Lode.

Walter McRay, age 14, was Armilda's son. He and his father were born in California.

Lizzie Pinkerton, age 12, Volmy Pinkerton, age 10, Mervyn Pinkerton, age 8, and Leavurn Pinkerton, age 3, were all born in Nevada, and their father was born in Iowa.

Jane Pinkerton, age 78, was Armilda's widowed mother-in-law. She was born in New York, and both of her parents were born in Connecticut. She gave birth to seven children, and three were still alive in 1910.

The family owned their home free and clear. While the home was not on a farm, the family owned 19 farm animals.

Volny H Pinkerton, age 19, also was a laborer in a box factory.

Mervyn L Pinkerton, age 17, was not attending school in 1920, and he was not working at the time of the census.

Leavurn H Pinkerton, 12, was a schoolgirl.
