Constantien was a French Huguenot who had supported Napolean. He left France after the emporer was overthrown and moved to New York City in 1816 to set up a merchantile business. After 3 years, he purchased land in Pike Co. and moved to Milford. He built his house in Milford and opened a store on Broad St. where the Forrest Building now stands. After his death, his son Cyrill assumed management of the business.
