Donna Lee (Bauer) Pierce was born on Monday; September 30, 1929 northwest of Red Oak in Montgomery County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Leonard and Ruth (Jones) Bauer. Donna was raised in Montgomery County, Iowa attending Garfield #6 and Stewart rural schools. She graduated from Villisca High School in l947. Donna furthered her education by attending a branch of University of Iowa in Corning, Iowa to obtain her teaching certificate. For two years, she taught students at Greenwood #4 rural school northwest of Tinville, IA. Donna was united in marriage to James F. Pierce at the Villisca United Methodist Church on August 15, 1948, in Villisca, IA. To this union were born four daughters, Deidra, Dorene, Doris and Denise. James and Donna lived on a farm all of their married life. They rented and then purchased their farm northeast of Red Oak in l985. She loved cooking for her family, making sure everyone had their favorite dish or dessert. Donna took pride in her beautiful flowers which came from her flower garden. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church and U.M.W. in Red Oak. She was also a member of two neighborhood clubs. Donna Lee (Bauer) Pierce, age 80, passed away on Friday; July 16, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband: James F. Pierce of rural Red Oak, Iowa; her four daughters: Deidra (Tom) Ash of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dorene (Don) Atkinson of Villisca, Iowa; Doris (Randal) Barr of Red Oak, Iowa and Denise Manard of Iowa City, Iowa. Her nine grandchildren: Scott (Monica) Ash of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kristy (Chad) Barrett of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mark (Melissa) Ash of Lincoln, Nebraska; Curtis (Carisa) Patterson of Red Oak, Iowa; Jason Patterson of Red Oak, Iowa; Angie (Tim) Matthews of Lincoln, Nebraska; Nicole Barr of Omaha, Nebraska; Nathan Barr & Caity Todd of Omaha, Nebraska and Wayne (Lindsay) Rogers of Omaha, Nebraska. Her nine great-grandchildren: Garrett & Ryleigh Patterson; Hayden & Ashlyn Barrett; Jonas Rogers; Eli & Tillie Ash; Eyan Barr and Lucas Matthews. Her sister: Mrs. Phyllis Chaney of Stanton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many wonderful friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her sister: Lila (Donald) Bock; her brothers-in-law: Ernest Chaney, Harry Chickering, Harley Chickering, Ross Chickering and Wayne Chickering. Her sisters-in-law: Rose Luedeke, Darlene Glasscock, Doris Schultz and Helen Chickering. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Red Oak. Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating Private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Arlington Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa. A memorial is being established in Donna's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
