Mrs Bowen was the daughter of Fred Wilson and Nellie May (Morris) Pierce, born Oct 14, 1915, at her parent's home in Oakland. She grew up in Oakland, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with her bachelor's degree in business and worked as the bookkeeper for Emerson Farm Supply and Charles Lakin Farms, both in Emerson. She married Mark Walter Bowen of Hastings on Feb 24, 1940, in Horton, Kan. They made their home on a farm near Hastings and were blessed with a daughter. In 1952 , the family moved to the Pierce family farm northwest of Hastings. Mr and Mrs Bowen had been married nearly 46 years when Mr Bowen died in January 1986. Mrs Bowen continued to live on the farm until declining health and mobility encouraged her to move to a home in Red Oak. She enjoyed music of all types and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She was a private person who enjoyed her independence.
Mrs Bowen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Linda Bowen; and sisters Verna Pleak, Elsie May and Leila Clemons. She is survived by nieces Verla Scambler of San Diego, Calif;, Jean Bigham of Klamath Falls, Ore, Norma Bailey of Hyannis, Mass, and Marlene Dodson of North Platte, Neb; and caregiver Maxine Wilkinson of Emerson.
Memorials are suggested to Hastings United Methodist Church. Mansfield--Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern was in charge of arrangements.
