Hiram was a Union veteran
Enlisted 5 Aug 1862 served in company G, Illinois volunteers, 106th Infantry during the Civil War, his first engagement being at Carroll's Station, near Jackson, TN in December. He was taken prisioner with his company, was paroled and sent to Benton Barracks, St. Louis. Promoted to 1st Sargent and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. In October, 1863, he was again on duty. His regiment took part in the Siege of Vicksburg. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and Mustered out 12 July, 1865 at Pine Bluff, AR., with partial paralysis on his left side. The regiment was discharged at Camp Butler, Illinois on 24 July 1865.

Hiram was a Justice of the Peace in Broken Arrow, formerly Sheriff of Logan Co., IL, and called Judge Pierce in his obit

His 2nd wife was Eliza C. Horn
they had 5 children:Harriett, Hiram S., Wilhelmina, Wiley Miller, Fannie Estella.

His 3rd wife was Mary Anne Burkinshaw
they had 2 children: Franckie C., Nina Mable.
