Daughter of William & Katherine (Gross-Rhode) Pieper.
She attended grade school at Sacred Heart Academy in Olean; Howells High School, for three years and then graduated from Dodge High School. She lived in Omaha, after graduation where she was employed as a secretary for the Empire Insurance Company.
On April 18, 1950, she married Russell McMullin at Sacred Heart Church in Olean. They farmed southwest of Leigh, Nebraska until 1986 when they semi-retired and moved to Creston. She then worked at Traditions (formerly known as the Muffin Shoppe) in Columbus for 12 years and also ran a catering business with her sister-in-law Ruth Feye.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh for more than 50 years, where she was active in the St. Mary's Altar Society, the church choir, and the quilting club. She was also a former member of the Keynoters of Leigh.
JoAnn loved spending time with her grandchildren, participating in her church activities, singing, doing puzzles, playing cards and scrabble.
