Mrs. Esther Thomas Hudgins died at her home on Gwynn's Island Monday morning after an illness of several months. She was 72 years of age.
Funeral services were conducted at the baptist church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Vellines and the remains were laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hudgins is survived by her husband, Vitilius W. Hudgins; three sons, James C., Robert L. and H. W. Hudgins; six daughters, Mrs. J. R. Respess, Mrs. B. F. Powell, Mrs. C. H. Bensten and Mrs. J. E. Mitchem, of Mathews county, and Mrs. A. L. Bentley and Mrs. E. M. Riggs, of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. John Stillman and Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, of Baltimore, and Mrs. W. E. Powell, of Ocean View; one brother, A. T. Pickett, of Norfolk.
Mrs. Hudgins was a member of Gwynn's Island Baptist church and took an active part in all matters pertaining to the church. She was a woman of splendid Christian character and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
