Iris Gail Pickett Payne, 74, of Max Meadows, Va., went to meet the Lord on Monday, March 3, 2008. She was born September 9, 1933, in Wythe County, daughter of the late Albert William and Etta Mae Swecker Pickett. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Pickett; sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Luther Payne; and brother-in-law, James "Ebb" Edmonds. She was a member of Pickett's Chapel Church of God for 55 years. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin M. Payne, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Benny Copenhaver, of Wytheville, Va., and Patricia Ann and Charles Spraker, of Max Meadows, Va.; one son , Carlton Duwayne Payne, of Max Meadows, Va.; six grandchildren and spouses, Steve and Amber Crockett, Kim and John Caudle, Mico Roach (special caregiver), Suzanne Crockett, Mahala Crockett and Dylan Spraker; five greatgrandchildren, Amber Caudle, Alexis Crockett, Elise Blevins, Catelin Crockett and Courtnie Caudle; two sisters and brother-in-law, Juanita Edmonds, of Max Meadows, Va., and Barbara and Ralph Hancock, of Tazewell, Va.; and sister-in-law, Ruby Pickett, of Wytheville, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tony Hodge, the Rev. Ronnie Stuart, the Rev. James Walker, the Rev. Clayton Quesenberry and the Rev. Kenneth Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Charity Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home or at the residence at any time. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
