Edmund J. Pickering, of Hamilton, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was 91. Mr. Pickering was born in New Brunswick and was a lifetime resident of the area before moving to Bayville, where he lived a short time before moving to Hamilton in 2001. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Pickering was a foreman for the Middlesex County Parks Department, running the care and controlling the needs of Johnsons Park. He retired in 1983 after 27 years of service. Mr. Pickering was an avid gardener and woodworking. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a baseball enthusiast and his favorite team was the N.Y. Mets.
Mr. Pickering was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Hummell Pickering; his daughter, Patricia Ogonowsky; and his brother, James Pickering. He is survived by his wife, Lee Eloise Pickering of Hamilton; his sons, James of Ohio, and William of Bridgewater and his wife Maureen; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8 from the funeral home, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church, New Brunswick. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.
