Sheila Pickering Ashley died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 69.
Sheila was born in Blue Hill, Maine, on Nov. 11, 1943. She graduated from Freeport High School in Freeport, Maine. In 1964 she married the love of her life and moved to Port Gibson in 1965 where she lived until the time of her death. She later earned her associate's degree from Hinds Community College while working and raising a family. She was retired from Claiborne County Department of Human Services. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an active member of Stepping Stone Baptist Church. She will be remembered by those who knew her on how she touched their lives and helped so many in their time of need. She will also be remembered for her tremendous love of her family.
Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Gerald Ashley; her sister, Barbara Bodge of Westbrook, Maine; her son, Tommy Ashley of Port Gibson; her daughter, Christy Jones; her grandsons, Connor Jones and Collin Jones, all of Madison.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.
